My 6 hours without technology

I arrive at the golf course, turn off my car, and get out. Looking down at my phone I checked it for the last time and turned it off. My six hours without technology has began. I walked into the pro-shop and asked for a few buckets of balls, and bought a water as well. It was a warmer day than usual in the winter so I knew needed it. I walked out of the pro-shop and grabbed my bag and began walking. The walk from the shop to the range is a long one. After crossing the road, proceeded to the bridge over the creek, and arrived to the range.

Going to the range is one of my favorite things to do. Being a golfer, this is what I would call my personal time. This is where I find myself. No one around, just the nature and I. I began to warm up. I start with my wedges, just hitting small shots trying to get my body lose. After awhile I start trying to hit targets at certain yardages. 50–75–100–120.

I then move onto my long and short irons. Still warming up I hit half swings with my 9 iron. I try hitting different locations around 145 yards. I then start taking full swings hitting targets at 155 yards. I try moving the ball from left to right, and right to left. This helps me practice both ball control and hitting shots that I would see on the golf course. Almost as if I am trying to simulate a golf round. Now being 45 minutes into my practice I move up to a 4 iron. At this point I begin trying to hit targets around 215–230 yards. Still working on all different shots. This is my favorite part of my practice because it is the most creative. Visually this is where the most movement on the golf ball can be made.

At this point I then moved onto my 2 iron, and practice hitting tee shots I have on many different courses. This is one of the most important clubs in the bag because it is made to be hit on command. If there is ever a shot I need to keep in play off of the tee, this is the club I will pull.

Lastly I start hitting drivers. I work on my swing plane trying to repeat a certain ball flight. This is the least forgiving club in the bag, so it is important to know the shots that I can hit with it.

After these shots I am done on the range and I’m two hours in without technology. I then walk to the putting green to work on my putting stroke. I put my eye line mirror down so I can check my set up with my putter. It is important to ensure that my eyes are over the putter line and my shoulders are square with the target. If either of these are off it can cause me to miss the putt. I spend 30 minutes doing this till I feel like my set up consistent. Then I move onto a 12 tee drill. Here I surround the cup at four different putts that are 3 feet long. I then repeat this at 6 and 9 feet. The goal in this drill is to start at 3 feet and work my way to the 9 footers. It’s similar to around the world. If I make one I move forward. If I miss one, then I move back. This Drill took me around an hour and a half to complete.

After this I walk to the first tee to play nine holes. I go through my process on every shot to simulate a tournament like mind set. This is the best practice in my opion becuase nothing changes from the actual tournament. I am competing with myself. After the nine holes, I am 6 hours in without technology and I walk to my car. I take change my shoes, load my bag, and get in. Before I leave I turn on my phone to see if anyone has tried to contact me. I connect my phone, find a playlist I like, and drive away.

My 6 hours without technology was not difficult at all. For me, its just another day. This is something I do 4–5 days a week, and I enjoy it alot.
